Recognition of Academic Excellence
Official college transcripts will note the following:
Graduation Honors
Graduation honors recognize outstanding academic achievement throughout a student’s academic career at the Community College of Aurora. The honors are awarded to students who complete the requirements for an associate degree and who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average in that program. Honors are designated as follows:
- Summa Cum Laude - with highest honor - 4.00 cumulative GPA
- Magna Cum Laude - with great honor - 3.75 to 3.99 cumulative GPA
- Cum Laude - with honor - 3.50 to 3.749 cumulative GPA
Honor Society
Membership in Phi Theta Kappa -cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, with a minimum of 12 semester hours in residency at CCA.
Semester Honors
Honor designations are noted on transcripts each term to students who complete a minimum of 6 semester GPA producing credits at CCA with a 3.5 or better GPA for the term. Term honors are designated as follows (note: prior to the summer of 2021, 12 semester hours were required in the term to earn an honors designation):
- President’s List - GPA of 4.0
- Vice President’s List - GPA of 3.75-3.99
- Dean’s List - GPA of 3.5-3.749
Honors Program
Community College of Aurora offers honors options for students who want additional educational challenges. Courses can be taken for honors credit, and students can earn honors distinctions upon graduation. Honors courses must be college-level; courses numbered 1000 and below cannot be taken for honors credit. Students can opt to take selected courses for honors credit on a case-by-case basis by contracting with an instructor.
